Iván G. Marrero 

Mr. Marrero advises corporations, financial holding companies, banks and registered broker-dealers in corporate, securities and banking law matters. He has represented corporate clients in SEC-registered securities offerings and in compliance matters under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. He has also acted as bond, underwriters' or borrower's counsel in public offerings of municipal securities, including conduit financings, by government instrumentalities of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Moreover, he advises and represents clients on trademark law matters before the Puerto Rico Trademark Office.

He joined the Firm in 1994 as a law clerk, and in 1996 became an associate attorney. In 1998, he rejoined the Firm's Corporate Department after obtaining a Master of Laws in Corporate Law from the New York University School of Law. In 2001, he became a partner of the Firm, and from 2003 through 2006 was the Chairman of the Firm's Recruiting Committee. In 2006 he was named Vice Chairman of the Firm's Corporate Practice Group.

Mr. Marrero is a frequent speaker and has published many articles, including "Trademark Law Interpretations in Puerto Rico," Inside the Minds: Common Issues in IP Law, Aspatore Books, a Thompson business (July 2008). And "Puerto Rico Enacts New Trademark Law," International Trademark Association (INTA) Bulletin Vol. 65, No. 6 (March 15, 2010).

In October 2002, Mr. Marrero prepared and participated as a speaker in the first conference regarding the passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act sponsored by the Puerto Rico Bankers Association.

In October 2007 Mr. Marrero served on the securities law panel at the Hispanic National Bar Association's annual meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and discussed U.S. Supreme Court decisions on pleading standards in private securities litigation, as well as developments on primary and secondary liability for securities fraud.

In April 2011, he served on a panel at the Lex Mundi North America Regional Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and discussed corporate governance and executive compensation developments in light of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.

In August 2011, he was a guest speaker at an intellectual property seminar for accountants held at the Puerto Rico Society of Certified Public Accountants and discussed important aspects of federal and Puerto Rico trademark laws.
