Kevin M. Acevedo-Carlson 

Mr. Acevedo-Carlson has ample experience in civil and commercial litigation in both the federal and local courts of Puerto Rico gained between 2002 and 2009. He has successfully tried federal jury cases in the U.S District Court of Puerto Rico (as "first chair", and has experience handling other complex matters, including hearings for equitable relief in civil cases before the federal and local courts, such as injunctions and mandamus.

He has had legal and practical experience in disputes concerning antitrust, securities fraud, intellectual property (copyright and trademark law), banking law, consumer law (TILA, FDCPA), bankruptcy, maritime, insurance, construction, general corporate and contractual matters, medical malpractice, negligence, the distribution and sales representative’s laws, libel and slander, and ERISA claims. Additionally, he has experience in constitutional and civil rights cases. He also has experience in complex litigation and multi-party commercial cases.

Prior to joining McConnell Valdés in 2011, Mr. Acevedo-Carlson served as Deputy Legal Counsel and Deputy Legislative Advisor of Legislative Affairs to the Governor of Puerto Rico. He also worked as Assistant Secretary and General Counsel for the Department of Commerce and Economic Development (DDEC), as well as Special Assistant to the Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Development Company. During that time he was also the Legislative Affairs Director in charge of coordinating the legislative agenda of DDEC and of high-profile, public policy issues between the Office of the Governor and key legislative committees. During his time working in government between 2009 and 2011, he was also involved in the approval of most of the strategic public policy reforms enacted and implemented through legislation by Governor Fortuño, such as the permit reform, energy reform, tax reform, labor reform, and the private-public partnership program, among others.

Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Acevedo-Carlson served as law clerk for the Honorable Baltasar Corrada del Río, Associate Justice of Puerto Rico’s Supreme Court (2000-2001), and then for the Honorable Judge Daniel R. Domínguez, U.S. District Judge (2001-2002).

Mr. Acevedo-Carlson has been an Adjunct Professor at the Interamerican University School of Law since 2006, where he lectures on subjects related to the federal courts, trial and appellate practice.
