Maggie Correa-Avilés
Ms. Correa-Avilés has specialized in Employment Law litigation, particularly discrimination, retaliation and sexual harassment. For sixteen years prior to 1995 she was a member of our Litigation Practice Group. She also has extensive experience in civil and commercial litigation.
She has twice argued before the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico. The latter usually does not hold oral arguments. It sustained Mrs. Correa's position revoking the Puerto Rico Court of Appeals. She has also verbally argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
She has been a member of the firm's Recruiting Committee, the Evaluations Committee, the Continued Legal Education Committee, and the Labor and Employment Group's internal seminars organization.
From 2006-2008 she was a member of the Board of Directors of the P.R. Bar Association. She was awarded the 2008 Attorney of the Year (“Colegiada del Año”) of the P.R. Bar Association. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the San Juan Cinemafest, and a member of the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce from 2005-2006. Currently, she is a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association.
Before joining McConnell Valdés, she was an Associate at the law firm Brown, Newsom & Córdova. She was formerly an Assistant Solicitor General with the Office of the Solicitor General, Puerto Rico Justice Department; and a professor at the University of Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rico Junior College.
In 1979 she joined McConnell Valdés.
