Mayleen Santiago-Garcés
Her main area of practice focuses on the establishment, qualification, administration, amendment and termination of retirement plans, including drafting plan documents, evaluating plan designs for compliance with the PR Internal Revenue Code and applicable laws, and assisting with the adoption of master/prototype plans.
Ms. Santiago also assists clients with revision of agreements and contracts and participant's communications for compliance with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act ("ERISA"), the Puerto Rico Internal Revenue Code and Department of Labor regulations.
Before joining McConnell Valdés, Ms. Santiago worked as In-house Counsel for the Popular Fiduciary Services Division of Banco Popular where she had the opportunity to acquire experience in matters related to retirement plan administration and compliance with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Puerto Rico Internal Revenue Code and the Department of Labor regulations. She worked with Popular Master Plan document amendments and restatements with PR Treasury Department to keep it up to date and in compliance with changes law. She conducted research on clients' retirement plan legal inquiries and prepared several communications on the different laws and regulations affecting their retirement plans.
