Patricia M. Marvéz
Ms. Marvez provides legal counseling to employers related to employment matters. She actively litigates employment lawsuits at the administrative and judicial level in both local and federal court. Ms. Marvez' areas of concentration include employment rights such as discrimination and retaliation claims, unjust dismissal, workers' compensation, mergers and acquisitions, and welfare benefits and ERISA litigation. As part of her experience in the welfare benefits area, Ms. Marvez also provides legal counsel and representation to plan sponsors and plan administrators on issues affecting the administration of group health plans and compliance with applicable laws and regulations, such as ERISA, HIPAA, and COBRA. Also, Ms. Marvez has extensively worked on the creation, development, and revision of employee handbooks, policies, and workplace regulations.
Ms. Marvez is the co-editor of the Puerto Rico section of the "Getting the Deal Through: Labour & Employment" publication for 2009 and 2010. She is also the co-editor of the Puerto Rico chapter in "The Littler Mendelson Guide to International Employment and Labor Law" for 2010.
Ms. Marvez is a contributor to the Firm's Labor Perspectives newsletter and has published numerous articles, among them: "Workers; Compensation Employment Reserve Rules May Change: A New Twist from the P.R. Supreme Court" (Fall 2003); "Amendments to the Special Sports Leave for Participants Act" (Winter 2004-2005); "New USERRA Regulations Issued by the DOL" (Spring 2006); "New Solutions to Common Concerns" (McV 40th Anniversary Edition. Article co-authored with Maralyssa Alvarez); "1, 2.4 Counting the Appropriate Steps to Progressive Discipline" (Spring 2008); "New COBRA Continuation of Coverage Assistance under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act" (Spring 2009); "Breach Notification Requirements Are Now in Effect! Ms. Marvez joined the firm in 1999 through its Summer Program where she worked for three summers and joined the Firm as an attorney in 2002. While in law school, Ms. Marvez worked as research assistant in the project for the revision of the Puerto Rico Civil Code.
