Aurelio Torres-Ponsa is Of Counsel in the Tax Department of McConnell Valdés. He is a professor at the School of Law of The University of Puerto Rico where he teaches various courses and seminars in the areas of taxation, bankruptcy and business planning.

Practice Areas

Mr. Torres-Ponsa's practice is concentrated principally in the taxation area, including corporate taxation, corporate and individual tax planning, tax exemption, international taxation and property and municipal license taxation.

Education

Mr. Torres-Ponsa obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, a Juris Doctor from the University of Puerto Rico and a Master of Laws (in Taxation) from New York University.

Admissions

He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico.

Memberships

Mr. Torres-Ponsa is member of the Puerto Rico Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

Representative Cases

Throughout his years of practice Mr. Torres-Ponsa has provide tax consultation and tax planning services to many corporate clients, including Puerto Rico Sun Oil Company, Citibank, N.A., Motorambar, Inc., Eli Lilly and Co., The Shell Co. (Puerto Rico), Ltd. and Banco Popular de Puerto Rico.

Publications

Mr. Torres-Ponsa is currently writing a textbook on Puerto Rico income taxation, which he hopes to be able to publish in 2004 or 2005.
