McV Pro Bono Program

Leading the Way in Community Service for 15 Years

Overview

At McConnell Valdés, we believe that it is our responsibility to provide free legal services to not-for-profit entities of limited means that work to improve our communities and the lives of Puerto Ricans.

We have backed this conviction since 2006, when we established our groundbreaking  Pro Bono program – a program that is the first institutional program of its kind in Puerto Rico.

Since then, we have continued to lead the way by  contributing more than 16,000 hours of legal assistance – equivalent to more than $3.5 million – to more than 400 nonprofit organizations. They have benefited from services ranging from contract drafting and review and the preparation of Puerto Rico and U.S. tax exemption applications to intellectual property counseling and labor law assistance.

Our pro bono commitment has led to productive collaborations with leading foundations and nonprofits – such as the United Way of Puerto Rico, the Community Foundation of Puerto Rico, and the Angel Ramos Foundation  – that regularly refer to us grantees, member organizations, and other nonprofits for free assistance with transactional and non-contentious legal issues.

We encourage all of our attorneys – as well as our Summer Associates – to positively impact the lives of those in need by participating in our Pro Bono Program. Each year, we proudly honor those attorneys who give more than 30 hours of their time to pro bono counsel by making a donation to a not-for-profit organization of their choice.

As the exclusive Lex Mundi firm for Puerto Rico, we actively support and sponsor the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation, which matches social entrepreneurs with free legal services provided by Lex Mundi’s worldwide network of 160 member firms.

McConnell Valdés is also a member of the Law Firm Pro Bono Project of the Washington, DC-based Pro Bono Institute, which supports the pro bono efforts of major law firms, in-house corporate legal departments, and public interest organizations in the U.S. and around the world.
