Her area of practice is general litigation and appellate practice.
Prior to joining McConnell Valdés Ms. Sotomayor-Hernández clerked for the Hon. Edgardo Rivera-García, Associate Justice of the Puerto Rico Supreme Court. During that time, she was a speaker in various conferences regarding Puerto Rico's judicial system.
While in law school she was a teacher assistant to Professor Alberto O. Jiménez-Santiago, and interned at the Department of State of Puerto Rico, the Court of Appeals, the Puerto Rico House of Representatives and at a San Juan law firm. Upon her graduation from law school Ms. Sotomayor-Hernández received several awards and recognitions, including the José Vélez-Torres Award for the highest GPA in Civil Law, the Mortgage Law and Notary Law Faculty Award, the Puerto Rico Bar Association (CAAPR) Prize for Highest Academic Index (2017) and the Puerto Rico Bar Association (CAAPR) Prize for most outstanding student in Civil Law (2017). Moreover, she achieved the highest test score in her Puerto Rico bar examination, out of 401 participants.
Ms. Sotomayor-Hernández assisted in editing the book "Compendio sobre el sistema acusatorio: experiencias compartidas", and was member of its editorial board. Some of this book's authors include Puerto Rico Supreme Court Associate Justices Hon. Rafael L. Martínez-Torres, Hon. Mildred G. Pabón-Charneco, Hon. Erick Kolthoff-Caraballo and the Hon. Edgardo Rivera-García.
