As part of our community service program, this year's Summer Associates and their mentors participated in an activity at the Hacienda La Esperanza Nature Reserve, one of the natural areas protected by Para la Naturaleza, a unit of the Fideicomiso de Conservación de Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico Conservation Trust). They planted 300 native Puerto Rican trees, such as maga, úcar, icaco, and cajuil. These trees are now part of the reforestation program of the estuarine habitat of the Río Grande de Manatí. The reforestation will create a grove (mangle) that will help connect the river’s mouth with an adjacent mogote. The group fully enjoyed their experience in contributing to Puerto Rico's reforestation and sharing McV’s commitment to the community.
