McV News

We are pleased to announce that Jason Knox has joined McConnell Valdés as Counsel in the Washington, D.C. office. He will focus on government affairs, energy, transportation, infrastructure, and PROMESA related matters.

Prior to joining McConnell Valdés, Mr. Knox served as Staff Director for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources. The Committee, led by U.S. Representative Rob Bishop (R-UT), has jurisdiction over a broad array of issues, including federal lands, Puerto Rico, energy and mineral development on federal lands, federal water policy, tribal policy, marine management, insular issues and several major environmental laws including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

Under his leadership, the Committee on Natural Resources was engaged in several critical legislative endeavors that became law. This included Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act (PROMESA), which established a federal oversight board for Puerto Rico to address its fiscal problems which included a mechanism for debt restructuring, regain access to capital markets, and streamlined infrastructure permitting. The Committee was also engaged in the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act (WIIN Act), which included the first bipartisan agreement to provide for relief in drought-stricken California in over two decades and settled long-standing water disputes involving four tribes and multiple stakeholders that totaled nearly $1 billion.

Prior to his work on the Natural Resources Committee, he was the oil, gas and pipeline Counsel on the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce, chaired by U.S. Representative Fred Upton (R-MI). During this time, he was the lead staffer on efforts to modernize federal laws pertaining to oil and natural gas exports, pipeline safety and energy development. He also handled efforts to approve the Keystone XL pipeline.

Mr. Knox also served as a Budget Analyst on the U.S. Senate Committee on the Budget, chaired by then U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) - now Attorney General of the United States. He oversaw the budget functions for energy, natural resources and agriculture programs. During this time he gained keen insight into the federal budget process and Senate procedure.

Mr. Knox brings a wealth of knowledge and relationships from over a decade's experience working in the U.S. Congress. This includes experience in both chambers of Congress, working with multiple federal agencies, and negotiating directly with the White House during two separate Administrations.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from Florida State University and a J.D. from the Levin College of Law, University of Florida. He is admitted to practice law in the State of Florida.
