José Irizarry-Castro's practice focuses on commercial litigation in both state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels. He also represents clients in arbitration and administrative proceedings.
Before rejoining McConnell Valdés in 2025, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Gina R. Méndez-Miró at the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. In that role, he assisted the Court in managing a broad docket encompassing civil and criminal matters, as well as certain bankruptcy proceedings. His work included drafting, for approval, opinion and orders addressing diverse issues of federal civil procedure, federal jurisdiction, commercial law, employment law, bankruptcy law, and criminal law. He also assisted in courtroom proceedings such as status, settlement, and motion hearings.
José first joined McConnell Valdés as an associate following two Summer Associate programs with the firm in 2018 and 2019. While in law school, he served as a student law clerk to the Honorable Juan M. Pérez Giménez at the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and as a student attorney in the University of Puerto Rico Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurship Clinic. He also served as a Senior Editor for the University of Puerto Rico Business Law Journal.
