Act 19-2017: Amendments to the Puerto Rico Permitting Process

On April 4, 2017, Governor Ricardo Rosselló signed Act 19-2017 which amended and repealed portions of the Puerto Rico Permits Process Reform Act, Act 161-2009 (“Permits Reform Act”).  Act 19-2017 seeks to expedite the evaluation and issuance of land use approvals and permits in Puerto Rico.  Act 19-2017 also amended, among others, the Autonomous Municipalities Act, Act 81-1991 and the Puerto Rico Environmental Public Policy Act, Act 416-2004.

Act 19-2017 seeks to expedite the evaluation and issuance of land use approvals and permits in Puerto Rico, in an effort to promote new businesses and incentivize Puerto Rico’s economy in the construction and land use sector.
