Ignacio Portela's main area of practice includes general corporate matters and real estate law.
Before entering law school, Ignacio worked at the Strategic Planning Division of Banco Popular, where he was part of a team that helped restructure the Consumer Mortgage lending process of Popular Mortgage and review the efficiency processes of the Fraud Department.
While in law school, he worked as a Semester Law Clerk for a San Juan law firm, and in 2021 he worked at McV as a Summer Associate. He also worked as a student clerk for the Hon. Mildred G. Pabón Charneco of the Puerto Rico Supreme Court.
Ignacio served as a research assistant to Professor Antonio García Padilla of the University of Puerto Rico and assisted in the edition of the upcoming book Garantías Mobiliarias. He authored various articles for the University of Puerto Rico Law Review Digital Edition: “Quiebra pandémica: Disputa de los fondos del Paycheck Protection Program”, “Profesionales de la Salud: Caduca el término para solicitar los incentivos contributivos”, “Fulton v. City of Philadelphia: ¿separación de iglesia y estado?”, and “MORE Act: ¿primer paso para la despenalización del cannabis?”. He also published the article “Las Zonas Francas de Puerto Rico” 13 No. 1 UPR Bus. L.J. 89 (2018), for the UPR Business Law Journal’s thirteenth volume.
Ignacio was awarded the distinction of Highest GPA of his class in the areas of Civil Law and Commercial Law. The Puerto Rican Bar Association (Colegio de Abogados) gave him the same distinction regarding the area of Civil Law.
