Federal Court Issues Order Regarding Virtual Courtroom System

The U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico issued an Order regarding the Virtual Courtroom System that will be implemented after April 15, 2020.

Following is a summary of the Order:

  • The Order reaffirms the continuance of all civil and criminal proceedings until April 15, 2020
  • After April 15, 2020, the Court will operate through a virtual courtroom system, having enabled a Video Tele-Conferencing ("VTC") system.
  • Attorneys will receive advanced notification of their participation in VTC hearings or conferences and will be provided instructions on how to connect to the system.
  • Criminal hearings that require the presence of defendants will be held using the VTC system available at MDC and the Bayamón State Penitentiary.
