Puerto Rico Department of Health to Adopt Regulations on Telehealth and Cybertherapy

On October 26, 2023, the Puerto Rico Department of Health issued a public notice notifying the public of its intent to adopt regulations for the use of Cybertherapy (the “Cybertherapy Regulation”) and Telehealth (the “Telehealth Regulation”).

The Cybertherapy Regulation is intended to regulate the use of cybertherapy in Puerto Rico by the following professionals: physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language therapists, psychologists, counselors, social workers, and rehabilitation and educational counselors. The Telehealth Regulation intends to regulate the use of telehealth services in Puerto Rico by audiologists, chiropractors, dentists, health educators, pharmacists, veterinaries, podiatrists, naturopathic doctors, naturopaths, nutritionists and dietitians, opticians, optometrists, and nurses.

The general public will have until November 25, 2023 to submit comments to the Department of Health, by mail at 1090 Marginal Ruiz Soler, Bayamón, Puerto Rico 00961-7329, or by email at a.ruiz@salud.pr.gov. A virtual public hearing on the proposed regulations will be held on November 16, 2023 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
